When did Labor Day begin

International Labor Day began in Chicago in the US in May 1886. Gradually, it spread to many countries of the world. India also adopted it. For the first time in India, Labor Day i.e. Labor Day was celebrated on 1 May 1923.

Labor Day is known as Workers’ Day, Workers’ Day, International Workers’ Day. At the same time, Labor Day is officially celebrated in the US on the first Monday of September. However, May Day started in the US.

When the demand for working 8 hours arose

In 1886, on the occasion of May Day, 2 lakh workers went on a nationwide strike demanding 8 hours of work. During that time, a large number of laborers worked in long shifts for 12-12 hours seven days and salary was also less. The children also had to work in difficult conditions. In America, children were forced to work in factory, mines and farms in poor conditions.

After this, the workers started pressuring them to increase their salary and reduce working hours through their demonstrations. In 1889, the International General Assembly met in Paris. During this time a resolution was passed that International Labor Day will be celebrated in all countries.
